Singer-songwriter 22-year-old Mo Kenney, won the 2013 SOCAN Songwriting Prize, for her song “Sucker.”
Prizes include $5,000, a Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar with Min-ETune, and a $3,000 gift certificate towards Roland products.
Close to 14,000 votes were cast online for the English and French nominees. Fans could vote once a day from June 3 to July 3 for one of the five nominated songs in each of the English- and French-language contests.
Earlier this year (March 30), Mo Kenney performed in Lethbridge, opening for Ontario’s Ron Sexsmith, at a sold-out Geomatic Attic show. Lethbridge was one of the Sexsmith/Kenney tour stops.
The winner of the French SOCAN Songwriting Prize was Keith Kouna of Quebec City for his song, “Batiscan.”
